Ellyn Uram Kaschak Institute fellowships

2021-2022 Student Fellowships: Requests for Proposals

Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to apply for research support for projects

based on the lived experiences of women and girls, with an emphasis on work designed to

promote equality for women and girls. Fellows receive an award of $2,000 to support their

research. Co-investigators submitting a single successful project will share the award.

Four projects can be funded in 2021-22.

Distinguished Dissertation Awards and Rosa Colecchio Travel Awards

Distinguished Dissertation Awards

The deadline for distinguished dissertation nominations is Friday, March 5th. The Distinguished Dissertation Award is for PhD and EdD dissertations defended and submitted to the Graduate School in each calendar year (e.g., 2015). The selection process will occur in the following spring semester (e.g., spring 2016). The Distinguished Dissertation Award recognizes original work that makes an unusually significant contribution to the discipline. Both methodological and substantive quality are judged. 

Awards are given each year in 4 broad disciplinary areas: mathematics, physical sciences, and engineering; social sciences; humanities and fine arts; and biological and life sciences. More details can be found here.

Rosa Colecchio Travel Awards

Rosa Colecchio Travel Award for Dissertation Research Enhancement applications are due by Friday, March 26th. Graduate students may apply for the Rosa Colecchio Travel Award for Dissertation Research Enhancement when travel enhances the student's dissertation work in a way that could not be accomplished otherwise. This program is funded through an endowment established through the Binghamton University Foundation by the family of Rosa Romano Colecchio. Details on the application package are here.

 Spring 2021: Important Degree Completion Deadlines 

The degree completion deadlines for Spring 2021 can be found on the Graduate School's graduation webpage and are as follows: 

• Graduate Application for Degree (GAFD): May 7, 2021
• The online Graduate Application for Degree is now accessible to students via the "Student" tab in BU Brain.
• Students who submit the Graduate Application for Degree after March 25, 2021 will not have their name appear in the Commencement program. 

• Thesis/Dissertation Submission: May 21, 2021

• Recommendation for Award of Degree forms: May 28, 2021

• Certificate and Thesis/Dissertation Fees: June 4, 2021

• Survey of Earned Doctorates (for doctoral students only): June 4, 2021

• Degree Conferral Date: May 20, 2021 (PharmD only); May 30, 2021 (all others)
• Degree conferral processing will begin the week of June 14, 2021 (for all except Pharmacy)
