 Spring 2022: Degree Completion Deadlines

The Spring 2022 degree completion deadlines can be found on the Student Records webpage located here.

• Most important to note is that while students can submit the GAFD (Graduate Application for Degree) up through the last day of Spring classes, the deadline to submit the GAFD and be listed in the Commencement program is March 23rd. Please remind your graduate students of this important deadline.

 Spring 2021: Important Degree Completion Deadlines 

The degree completion deadlines for Spring 2021 can be found on the Graduate School's graduation webpage and are as follows: 

• Graduate Application for Degree (GAFD): May 7, 2021
• The online Graduate Application for Degree is now accessible to students via the "Student" tab in BU Brain.
• Students who submit the Graduate Application for Degree after March 25, 2021 will not have their name appear in the Commencement program. 

• Thesis/Dissertation Submission: May 21, 2021

• Recommendation for Award of Degree forms: May 28, 2021

• Certificate and Thesis/Dissertation Fees: June 4, 2021

• Survey of Earned Doctorates (for doctoral students only): June 4, 2021

• Degree Conferral Date: May 20, 2021 (PharmD only); May 30, 2021 (all others)
• Degree conferral processing will begin the week of June 14, 2021 (for all except Pharmacy)

 Graduate Application for Degree (GAFD) for Fall 2020

The Graduate Application for Degree (GAFD) for Fall 2020 is now available online and the recommended deadline for submission is December 1st, 2020. Departments are encouraged to run the GAFD report in SLATE regularly throughout the semester to view the list of students who have applied to graduate and identify any issues that may prevent or delay graduation.

The GAFD for Spring 2020 is now open.

The recommended deadline for students to apply to graduate is March 20. Students who wish to be included in the Commencement program must apply by March 20.

The GAFD for Spring 2020 will CLOSE on April 20.

Fall 2019 GAFD deadlines:

The recommended deadline for students to submit the GAFD is Friday, November 1.

The absolute deadline to submit the GAFD is Tuesday, November 26.

The absolute deadline of November 26 is necessary for follow-up with students so that they have the necessary time to resolve any issues that might prevent the award of degree, such as missing or incomplete grades, outstanding balances, missing forms, etc.

The Graduate Application For Degree (GAFD) is now open. Please remind your graduating students to complete the GAFD by Friday, March 22 if they wish to be included in the printed Commencement program. The recommended deadline to submit the GAFD is April 12; the absolute deadline to complete the form is May 3. Timely completion of this form also ensures timely completion of degree paperwork. The online GAFD form is hosted on the Graduation page of the Graduate School website.

The Graduate Application for Degree (GAFD) for Spring 2018 is scheduled to open on theGraduation page of the Graduate School website on Monday, February 5. Timely completion of this form ensures timely completion of degree paperwork. Students must submit the GAFD by Friday, March 23, to be included in the printed Commencement program. Students are also encouraged to take note of all degree requirements in the Graduate School Manual.

The deadline to be included in the commencement program is Monday, November 6.  Timely completion of this form ensures timely completion of degree paperwork.  If you also wish to participate in Commencement in the spring, please visit the Commencement website and complete a participation form.

Summer 2017 Graduate Application for Degree Open

The Graduate Application for Degree (GAFD) for Summer 2017 is available on the Graduation page of the Graduate School website. Timely completion of this form ensures timely completion of degree paperwork. The recommended submission date is Friday, August 4. Students must submit the GAFD by Friday, August 11. Students are also encouraged to take note of all degree requirements in the Graduate School Manual.  Departments must submit Recommendation for Award of Degree Forms by Monday, August 14.

The Spring 2017 Graduate Application for Degree (GAFD) is available on the Graduation page of the Graduate School website. Completion of this form ensures completion of degree paperwork, and it is also required for graduating students who wish to be recognized in the printed Commencement program. Students are strongly encouraged to apply before Friday, March 24 to be certain that their names will be printed in the program. After Friday, March 24, a student may still apply to graduate, but their name may not be included in the printed Commencement program. Students are also encouraged to take note of all degree requirements in the Graduate School Manual.

The deadline for completing this form is Friday, August 12.

If you think that you will be taking a degree this semester, you MUST complete the Graduate Application for Degree (GAFD), available now on the Graduate School website. The deadline is Monday, April 7 to guarantee inclusion in the Commencement program.
