Chilton to assume post as provost of Washington State University

Provost Donald Nieman announced today that Elizabeth Chilton, dean of Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, has accepted the position as provost and executive vice president at Washington State University, effective Aug. 1.

“Harpur has benefitted from Elizabeth’s leadership,” Nieman said. “Her commitment to providing exceptional learning experiences for our students has been unwavering and prepared her for this next step in her career."

“Elizabeth brought new perspectives to Binghamton University,” President Harvey Stenger noted. “We wish her well in her new position.”

“I have been honored to serve as Dean of Harpur College these past three years,” said Chilton. “I have been continually impressed by our stellar faculty, amazing chairs and directors, our students, staff and alumni.”

In the coming weeks, Nieman will appoint an interim dean after consulting with department chairs, faculty and staff. Faculty and staff may suggest candidates for interim dean to the Provost’s Office at vgriffin@binghamton.edu. Plans for initiating a search to hire a new dean will be announced during the fall semester.
